The objective
Find treasure, return it, and keep one pirate alive
The current official description is clear about the loop: enter a cursed location, use elastic arms and physics interactions to collect valuables, and get the haul back aboard. At least one pirate must survive to carry out the gold.
Built-in tutorial
Use the tutorial before learning from old Demo videos
The Early Access launch notes say the built-in tutorial covers long, stretchy hands, drinking rum, handing in treasure, and rescue basics. The August 26 update also corrected the guide NPC, revive step, cart-delivery point, crouch step, and bottle step.
- 01Practice grabbing and pulling
Learn how the arms affect loot and nearby objects before attempting a dangerous carry.
- 02Complete the treasure hand-in
Identify the actual return point instead of treating the beach or a temporary pile as secure.
- 03Finish the revive lesson
The step exists in the current tutorial, but this guide does not invent the exact input or timing without a live settings or tutorial capture.
- 04Read current prompts
Post-launch fixes changed tutorial wording and interactions, so current on-screen prompts outrank old Demo recordings.
First voyage
A cautious first-run sequence
- 01Choose solo or crew play
Both are supported, but official notes say quota, shop, item counts, and enemy spawns are balanced separately.
- 02Mark the return route
Before going deeper, make sure the crew can describe how to get the current load back aboard.
- 03Secure a small load first
This is conservative field advice: bank a simple return while learning the location rather than assuming every item must leave in one trip.
- 04React to the actual threat
Use the monster encounter reference for behavior notes and responses. Do not rely on old one-shot, range, or door-pathing reports after multiple balance patches.
- 05Check the save boundary
Official notes say progress saves each day and chapter; current item and host ownership still need live verification.
Healing and rescue
What the official updates actually confirm
Added to the tutorial after launch.
Made quicker in the Aug 28 update.
Exact input and timing still need a current capture.
Official Aug 25 balance note; co-op remained 15 seconds.
The down-time figures are dated balance values and may change again during Early Access. They should not be used to invent a universal rescue animation window.
Progress
Progress now saves every day and chapter
The August 21 update expanded saving beyond chapter boundaries to every day. The same update separated solo and team balance and fixed store stats after reconnect.
Still unknown without live evidence: whether every carried item persists, which progress belongs to the host, what a full crew wipe rolls back, and how a reconnect interacts with the newest save point.

Beginner FAQ
What is the goal of a run?
Explore the cursed location, move valuable loot back aboard, and keep at least one pirate alive to carry out the gold. The current official description treats survival and return as part of the objective.
Can you play Last Pirates: Die Together solo?
Yes. The Steam listing supports single-player and online co-op for up to four players. Official August 21 notes say solo and team play use separate balance for quota, shop prices and stock, item counts, and enemy spawns.
How does progress save?
Official notes say progress saves every day and at each chapter. Exact host ownership, item persistence, and failure rollback still need current live-build verification.
How do you revive a teammate?
The built-in tutorial includes a revive step and developer material describes a physical rescue interaction, but the current exact input, range, timing, and failure conditions are not documented clearly enough to publish as a complete control guide.
How do you drink rum or use fish?
Official post-launch notes show a right-click tutorial tip for rum and say fish healing uses right-click. Key remapping and controller equivalents should be checked in the current settings screen.
Should beginners carry every item at once?
No official best-load formula exists. A conservative approach is to learn the return route and secure smaller loads before risking a deeper haul; that is practical advice, not a published scoring rule.
